Kids Events

Free kids events and workshops are a huge drawcard for families on an Outback holiday. Turn your visit to Outback Festival into a fantastic 14 Day School Holiday Family Campervan Holiday from Brisbane. A full program of kids events and workshops will be released in early 2019. Activities may include art, photography, singing, songwriting, craft and much more.

Little Swaggies Event

This event involves a series of fun events linked to the story of Waltzing Matilda.  Events include the Swaggie’s hat toss, the Tucker Bag relay, the Billy Can dash, and Dodge the Jolly Jumbucks.

Under 8’s Teddy Bear Picnic

Children are asked to bring their favourite teddy to join in a range of activities to include, games, music and face-painting.  They’ll also receive a visit from the Tambo Teddies and other favourite characters.

  • Age groups: Under 8 yrs (children to be accompanied by an adult)

Children’s Wobble Board Painting Competition

Children are to bring their own brushes and containers to paint their favourite painting on the Wobble Board.  A Wobble Board is a piece of fibreboard used as a musical instrument, so maybe you can play some music later!  Wobble Boards and paints supplied.

  • Age groups: Under 8’s & 9-12 years

Bushman’s Egg Throwing Event

Test your skills in handling this very fragile item!  Work in pairs with a thrower and catcher.  The aim of the game is to try to throw and catch eggs without breaking the shell.

Children’s Wool Bale Rolling Competition

Children will roll a small bale of wool down the main street of Winton!

Swag Tossing Event

Take the challenge and toss Matilda’s Swag into the ring. Swag will be supplied.

Children’s Whip Cracking Workshops

Children will be coached by an Australian whip-cracking champion in the skills of whip-cracking.  Learn how to crack the whip!

Meggsie Cart Races

You will need one pusher and one passenger to test your skills in racing your Meggsie Cart on a set course for your chance to win a Festival medallion.  Meggsie Carts are supplied.

  • When:  Friday 27 September at 10.30am
  • Where: Matilda’s Mall
  • Age groups: 8-10 years and 11-13 years  (limited to 25 teams of two)
  • Cost:  $10 per team of two
