WHere Is Winton?
Winton is located in the heart of Outback Queensland, 177 kilometres north west of Longreach and approximately 1,300 kilometres from Brisbane.
They aren’t many towns that can live up to being as truly Australian as Winton. Winton is the birthplace of Waltzing Matilda and Qantas and holds the title as Australia’s Dinosaur Capital.
The town is surrounded by vast open plains, rugged gorges and unique rock formations. Other towns in the region include Opalton, Corefield and Middleton.

Travelling By Road
Winton is located on the Matilda Highway and is fully accessible via fully-sealed bitumen roads. For the off-road enthusiasts, there are plenty of back roads and little-known routes to be taken.
By road Winton is 177 kilometres from Longreach; 470 kilometres from Mount Isa and approximately 1,350 kilometres from Brisbane.

Flying To Winton
Flights are available to Winton departing from Townsville every Tuesday and Thursday with Regional Express (REX).
Winton Airport is located 5km from the town centre. Please check with your accommodation or contact Winton Visitor Information Centre about the Winton minibus service for transport.
For travel from Brisbane, alternatively, fly direct with QantasLink to Longreach where car hire is available.
Catch The Train
Leave the car at home and travel to Winton by rail. The Spirit of the Outback, operated by Queensland Rail, has services twice weekly to and from Brisbane to Longreach. Jumping On The Bus
Greyhound coach services operate from Brisbane to Mount Isa and Mount Isa to Brisbane, stopping in Winton. Reclining seats, in-seat USB chargers and a generous baggage allowance are included. Timetables information and tickets are available via www.greyhound.com.au.
